ECOLOGY OF SOME AQUATIC FUNGI RECOVERED FROM WATER AND SUBMERGED MUD IN DIFFERENT AQUATIC HABITATS WITHIN SULAIMANI PROVINCE-KURDISTAN REGION OF IRAQ

Trifa K. Farkha Hassan Ahmadi.

Abstract
Twenty-six species of aquatic fungi were recovered from surface water and submerged mud. Water for experiments was collected during the period from October 2009 to September 2010 from two different bodies of water: Streams Tanjaro and Qaliasn, springs upper Saraw and lower Saraw. Maximum number of fungal species was recorded at autumn and winter months. The most dominant species of aquatic fungi isolated from water samples were belonging to Saprolegnia, Pythium Achlya, Allomyces, Aphanomyces. While the most dominated fungal species isolated from mud were belonging to Pythium, Dictyuchus, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Curvularia, Fusarium, Pencillium and Rhizopus. The interaction of physicochemical factors greatly influences the occurrence of various species of aquatic fungi.

Key words: Aquatic fungi, Terrestrial fungi, Environmental factors
