EFFECT OF IRRIGATION AND MOWING DATES ON GROWTH OF BERMUDA GRASS (CYNODON DACTYLON, L.)

Abstract
The response of Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon, L.) to three irrigation levels (20, 30 and 40 L / m2) and five mowing dates (starting May 1th till November 20th) in regard to vegetative growth and chemical constituents was investigated. The high level of irrigation followed by the medium one, greatly increased plant height, covering density percentage, clipping fresh and dry weights and increased reducing and total sugars, chlorophyll a and b and carotenoids contents and N, P and K percentage in Bermuda leaves. The fourth mowing applied in (September 30th) gave the best vegetative growth parameters and chemical constituents in comparison with the fifth mowing applied in (November 20th) in both seasons. So, it could be recommended to irrigate Bermuda grass with the high level of water (40 L / m2) x mowing number four (September 30th).
